SUPER ADS ‘09

February 2nd, 2009

Even with the incredibly close game, eventually ending with a Steelers victory, the highlight of our Superbowl evening was the hilarity between the plays…the highly anticipated commercials. This year saw over-the-top celebrity endorsements, childhood favorites, and even ads in 3D…Did you wear your glasses? Some were predictable, and others over the top (for instance, the animated sugar-craving insects in the Coca-Cola “Heist” ad). Here at Rule29, we’ve ranked our top five spots below the jump.

CHRIS-BOTTI.JPG

We here at R29 are huge music lovers, just check our last.fm profile. Depending on the mood of the day or the mood of the moment our playlists are always changing. When the day calls for some laid back creative music a great artist to turn to is Chris Botti.

Botti is an awesome trumpeter and an amazing performer. He released his first solo album back in 1995 and continued to grow and evolve as a artist with every new release. Botti draws from the different worlds of pop, jazz, classical, and other genres as well. He is known for the warmth and complexity of his tone along with ability to combine pure raw feeling with his gifted improvisational skills.

Sting is one of the great artists that Botti has worked with and calls a friend. He joined Sting’s band as featured soloist on the “Brand New Day” tour, which had a two year run. Botti has appeared in dozens of albums besides his own . And has worked with performers from all different spectrums of the music world.

Botti’s latest special guests performance was held at Boston’s historic Symphony Hall. Artists included Sting, Josh Groban, Steven Tyler, Yo-Yo Ma, John Mayer, Katharine McPhee, Lucia Micarelli, and Sy Smith on stage with him and the Boston Pops Orchestra. PBS featured the concert during it’s March Pledge drive “Chris Botti in Boston” Columbia Records is releasing the music and footage of the concert on Tuesday March 31st.

If you wanted to catch him locally he’ll be performing at the Chicago Theater, Sunday May 10th. O

FUN FRIDAY - MINOTAUR CHINA SHOP

January 23rd, 2009

MINOTAUR.JPG

Today’s Friday, and we’re about to make it a Fun Friday by sharing our new favorite online videogame! Blurst’s Minotaur China Shop fullfils our fantasy of what would happen if a minotaur ran a china shop that served camels, pegesuses, and unicorns. Who knew running a china shop as a big minotaur was so hard and frustrating. If you find yourself constantly knocking down the merchandise instead of serving it, you can go into a rage and break everything in existence for the insurance money, just be aware of security who doesn’t agree with this plan. You have to install a plugin to play Minotaur China Shop, but it’s totally worth it to play Minotaur China Shop and check out Blurst’s other games such as Off-Road Velociraptor Safari, Jetpack Brontosaurus, and the iPhone’s Raptor Copter.

What’s your highest score? Do you serve customers or serve up destruction? Let us know in the comments section!
